Selesa resident must rein in dogs
City Hall staff observed that a wire mesh and piece of netting had been put up on the gate to deter the dogs from squeezing through.
A Taman Selesa dog owner has been instructed to ensure that his pets do not become a nuisance to the others living in this Kepayan neighbourhood.A spokeswoman for City Hall’s Health and Environment Department said the individual was taken to task recently for allowing his canines to wander unsupervised on the housing road.

“He was given a stern warning not to leave his front gate open when he left the house as this gave his canines the chance to exit onto the common areas,” she said.

“The ratepayer was also told to block the space between the bars towards the bottom of the gate so that his pets couldn’t squeeze through and escape his compound.”

He also must asked to reduce the number of canines in his keeping, according to her.

“Our records show that he has licences for two dogs. “This is the most that individual homeowners are allowed to rear at any one time.”

She said the agency’s Animal Control Unit (ACU) staff verbally informed the individual about these requirements.

A notice to this affect was later left in the post box for his house, according to her. “Two of our personnel went to the premises a week later. They found a wire mesh had been put in place at the base of the gate. “A sheet of netting had also been hung across some of the bars in the structure.”

The staff noted that the male dog was leashed up to one of the pillars in the front yard, according to her.

“They did not see the female or any other canines inside. At the time, nobody was home so they could not enter the compound.”

The spokeswoman said this was third inspection which the ACU had made of the house between August 12 and September 2.

“We will continue to keep an eye on the premises to ensure that the dogs do not unduly inconvenience our rate-payers here.”

DONNY of Kepayan said the homeowner often failed to close his front gate after he drove out of his house. He said the individual’s dogs often ran out onto the housing road and relieved themselves on the verges there from time to time.

“I have found their stool on the road in front of my home on several occasions,” he said.

“Me and my neighbours are so fed up with having to hose down our drive ways.” He said they had also wearied of cleaning up the mess left behind when the canines tipped over their dustbins to scavenge for food.

Donny said the dogs had a tendency to chase after vehicles and those who went on foot. “Thankfully, no pedestrian has been bitten so far. Nevertheless, I hope the relevant authority will intervene before someone comes to harm, or worse still loses their life, because of these canines.”
