Vaccination for teens in Kundasang begins

RANAU: The vaccination programme for adolescents aged between 12 and 17 will be implemented in villages in the Kundasang state constituency, starting today (Sept 18).Kundasang Assemblyman Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam (pic) said the villages are Kg Tumbalang, Merungin 1, Pinampadan, Debut, Kembiroi, Daramakan, Tarawas, Pinawantai, Togop Darat, Tinutuan, Tibabar, Nawanon, Pugi, Kantas, Kieyep, Lobou Lama, Lobou Baru and Merungin 2.

According to him, the vaccination will start daily at 8.30am until 3pm and last until September 24.
“It will involve the administration of 400 doses of vaccines a day,” he said, while praising the commitment shown by the Village Development and Security Committees (JPKKs) in helping to make the programme a success.
“I am grateful to all JPKKs led by Community Development Leader (PPM) Dounis Sani who often provide the latest information and ensure that all JPKKs carry out their duties. Children seeking to receive the vaccine must be accompanied by parents or guardians during the vaccination process and they must bring their identity cards,” said Joachim, who is also Deputy Chief Minister and Industrial Development Minister.
Vaccination for teenagers aged 12-17 years by walk-in started at the Ranau Community Hall on Thursday on a daily basis.

“It is hoped the Ranau District will achieve herd immunity immediately for the benefit of all,” said Joachim.
Meanwhile, Home Affairs Deputy Minister II cum Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin commended the ongoing vaccination programmes in Ranau as well as the new initiative of teen vaccination programme.

Voicing concern over the increasing number of new Covid-19 cases, especially in the district, he urged the people to continue practising strict SOPs in their daily lives, especially when being in public areas.
“We don’t know for sure who are carriers of the Covid-19 virus when in a public area. That’s why it is important to keep our physical distance, wear face mask and use hand sanitiser always,” he said
