Kota Kinabalu: Wartime loot and gold said to be stashed somewhere at Tawau’s Bukit Bombalai by the Japanese during World War II is attracting treasure hunters and excavations at Tawau Hills Park.“Whether there is really gold there is a mystery but that didn’t stop the interest,” said Suzana Nasib, Tawau Hills Officer (Research and Education). The excavations had to be stopped by park wardens, but the story of secret gold prevailed among local folk.
