Kota Kinabalu: The State Government on Wednesday decided to administer a booster Covid-19 vaccine dose on those aged above 60, starting today (Oct 28).

State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the decision was made following vaccination coverage progress of the Sabah National Covoid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) for adults which has achieved 76.6 per cent for single dose and 72.5 per cent for complete dose, as of Oct 26, this year.

He said Sabah started giving this booster dose to health and security frontliners starting Oct 20, this year, so that the recipients would get an optimal level of protection against Covid-19 infection.

“Individuals eligible to receive the booster dose are those who have completed receiving two doses of Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine at least six months from the second dose and Coronavac (Sinovac) at least three months from the second dose.

“In line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the implementation of booster dosing is to use either Comirnaty vaccine (Pfizer) or Coronavac vaccine (Sinovac). Booster doses are free under Pick,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Shahelmey, who is also Sabah Health Exco, said individuals wishing to obtain a booster dose can come directly to the available Vaccination Centres (PPVs), health clinics and private clinics as well as during outreach programmes conducted in their respective areas.

In this regard, he said the State Government calls on all individuals aged 60 years and above and eligible to receive a booster dose to come forward to get a booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine immediately to optimise the level of protection for themselves, their families and the community.
