Sabah’s Covid cases up slightly to 585

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s cases rose slightly to 585 on Wednesday from 565 the day earlier while nine deaths were recorded, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.He said two deaths were each recorded in Kudat and Pitas, while one each were recorded in Keningau, Kinabatangan, Kota Belud, Sandakan and Tenom.ADVERTISEMENT
Despite the increased caseload, Masidi said 97.44 per cent of cases are category one and two infections that do not require hospital treatment.
“Six cases are in category three while there is one case each in category four and five. Seven cases are still being evaluated by the State Health Department,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
Symptomatic cases in Sabah remain relatively high with 35 per cent of the caseload being sporadic infections.
“Cases in this category are often associated with failure to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” said Masidi, adding that 298 cases were close contacts.ADVERTISEMENT
On the caseload, he said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 64 cases, followed by Kota Belud (53), Beaufort (48), Kota Marudu (36), Tenom (34), Ranau (31), Kinabatangan (31) and Tambunan (30).
“Some 13 districts recorded an increase in cases, where four recorded a significant rise, namely Kinabatangan (+25), Kota Kinabalu (+15), Putatan (+13) and Tambunan (+11).

“Another 12 districts recorded a decrease with two districts recording a significant fall, namely Ranau (-28) and Keningau (-19),” he said.
Some 462 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,798 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.
Masidi said 79 patients are under critical care, with 76 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/repurposed critical care as well as eight in the open ward (high dependency ward (HDW)/acute cubicle), with 24 needing ventilator support.
“Some 94 (41.96 per cent) of stage four and five patients have not completed their vaccinations,” he added.
Sabah’s bed capacity is at 6,253 units with an occupancy rate of 28.85 per cent, he added.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 18,793 individuals were vaccinated on Oct 26, of which 13,155 were adults and 5,638 were teenagers.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“As of Oct 26, some 2,409,440 individuals have completed their first dose, of which 75.51 per cent were adults. Some 2,297,640 individuals have completed both doses of the vaccine, of which 73.71 per cent were adults,” he said.
He added that 326,562 teenagers have received their first dose, whereas 264,384 teenagers have been fully vaccinated thus far.
