LAHAD DATU: Some 30 villagers were made homeless after their houses in Kampung Pisang, here, were destroyed in a fire, early Sunday.District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said his department received a distress call at 1.35am.

He said a team of firefighters was rushed to the scene with a fire engine, a Fire Response Vehicle (FRV) and a four-wheel-drive.
“The team, on arrival, found four houses were involved in the incident and managed to bring the fire under control at 2.15am and the operation ended at 4.58am” he said.
According to Sumsoa, two houses were completely destroyed while two others were 10 per cent destroyed.
He said no casualties were reported in the incident and the cause of fire and losses are under investigation.

Meanwhile, in SEMPORNA, the premises of a sawn timber company in Kg Selamat, 2km from town, was also destroyed in a fire early Sunday.
Senior Fire Officer (PBK) 1 Abdul Kadir Halalan, who is also the Acting Chief of Semporna Fire and Rescue Station, said the premises was totally destroyed.

He said a fire engine and several firefighters were deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 3.36am and the fire was brought under control at 4.32am.
“No casualties were reported and the cause and losses are under investigation,” he said.
