50kg python caught in Tuaran
APM personnel successfully captured the python.
Tuaran: A man faced an anxious moment when he saw a four-meter python weighing about 50kg coiling around a cat in front of his house at Kampung Padas here, on Wednesday.

Habib Dahlan, 54, said he was about to leave his house at about 10am but turned back when he saw the incident and immediately went to his house to contact the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM).

“As soon as I open my house front door, I was surprised to see the python coiling around the cat.

“I tried to stop it but failed because the size of the reptile was too big and possibly very hungry,” he said. According to Habib, the reptile did not have time to swallow the cat when the APM arrived.

Meanwhile, Tuaran District APM Officer Paulina Francis said, upon receiving the complaint at 10.23 am, a team of personnel was deployed to the location immediately.

“Upon arrival, the APM team found the reptile in front of the complainant’s house and immediately carried out a snake-catching operation that took five minutes.

“The operation ended at 11.30am while the reptile was taken to the Tuaran APM office for further action,” she said.
