PAPAR: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) contributed 22 new lion heads for 23 troupes that will perform in an upcoming 2022 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Jan 15, this year.

USCCAKK President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said she wishes to give encouragement to the 23 troupes which come from various lion dance troupes in Sabah including from Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Beaufort, among others.

She said she purposely gave 22 new lion heads to symbolise year 2022 for the coming Chinese New Year celebration.

“I am pleased to inform that we have received an official approval letter from relevant authorities to hold the much-anticipated event at level 2, SICC here at 12 noon, next Saturday.

“We are also grateful that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor has confirmed to attend and officiate at the festival.

“Hence, I am holding an early Chinese New Year celebration here and five out of the 23 troupes are performing lion and dragon dance as a rehearsal prior to the main festival, 2022 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival on Jan 15,” she said.

Susan said this to reporters after an eye-dotting ceremony on the 22 new lion heads together with her mother Datin Seri Chen Si Mui, Papar MP Ahmad Hassan and others at Benoni Show Gallery, Saturday.

She also distributed “ang pow” and food to the troupe members as an encouragement for the upcoming festival.

Susan said it would be a first time for USCCAKK to organise such large scale event at SICC for Sabahans to enjoy the lion, dragon and unicorn festivals that is part of Chinese culture in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebration early next month.

She said the festival will also be livestreamed via SBH VFM for people in other parts of Sabah could see and enjoy the performances by the troupes from 12 noon until 6pm.

On its project Parklane Villa (Villa Saujana Ria) located opposite Benoni Commercial Centre here, Susan who is also WSG Group Managing Director and developer for the project, said the response of the bookings have been encouraging since the launching of its show house on early December last year.

She said the buyers are impressed with its latest design, spacious living areas and comfort living as well as convenience.

Parklane Villa comprises 180 units of double-storey terrace house and the built-up area for intermediate and corner units are 2,460 square feet (sf) and 3,420 sf respectively. Phase 1 of Parklane Villa was launched in June 2020, followed by Phase 2 in September last year. “Under the WSG Group’s masterplan, Benoni Gardens, Benoni Commercial Centre, Parklane City and Parklane Villa are poised to become a vibrant satellite township in Papar that integrate residential, commercial and leisure. “The entire development covers an area of 100 acres along the Pan Borneo Highway, 40 acres of which is designated for Benoni Commercial Centre and Benoni Gardens, and the remaining 60 acres earmarked for Parklane City, Parklane Villa and future projects,” she said.
