“Our Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) unit received a report about the local woman suffering hypothermia at Km 7.2 and responded to the location and provided initial treatment to the victim who was brought down to Panalaban using the Piggy Back Carry technique. On arrived there, the victim rested for some time.
“According to the Mosar personnel, the victim who was gradually recovering wanted to walk alone without the help of Mosar and moved down on her own to Timpohon Gate from Panalaban along with his guide,” he said.
Ridwan said the victim did not need EMRS or ambulance assistance as she managed to reach down slowly but safely. After ensuring no further danger existed, the operation ended at 3.10pm.
Ridwan said the current weather condition is making the already challenging route to Mt Kinabalu more challenging and would-be climbers need to carefully contemplate on this.ADVERTISEMENT
He advised future climbers to do self-health assessment before climbing Mt Kinabalu.
“There must be mental and physical preparations, and bring along only suitable and necessary items,” he said.
