KK areas to temporarily close for CNY Night Market

Kota Kinabalu: Several areas in the city will be temporarily closed to make way for the 2022 Chinese New Year Open Night Market on Jan 29 and 30.These include in Foh Sang, Kepayan (Yu Sang), Damai and Manggatal this weekend (Jan 29 and 30), as well as in Segama and Lido on Sunday (Jan 30).

Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said areas around Jalan Segama and Foh Sang would be temporarily closed to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

These include the entrance to Foh Sang shops (in front of Jalan Rumah Kedai Golden City and KFC Roundabout towards the Foh Sang entrance junction) which will be temporarily closed for the Foh Sang Chinese New Year Open Night Market, Luyang on Saturday (Jan 29), starting from noon to midnight and on Sunday (Jan 30), also starting from noon to midnight.

As for the Chinese New Year Open Night Market at Jalan Segama, it would involve Jalan Segama entering the Segama shop area and surroundings, which will be temporarily closed on Sunday (Jan 30) from 10am to midnight.

Noorliza said the two open night markets would be held for two days (Jan 29 and 30), starting from 1pm to midnight.

She said the Chinese New Year Open Night Market at Kedai Kepayan (Yu Sang), Dewan Damai (parking lots) and Pekan Manggatal Tamu Ground would also start from 1pm till midnight.

Another location for the Chinese New Year Open Night Market is Lido Market, which will only be held on Sunday (Jan 30) from 1pm to midnight

DBKK also invites members of the public who are keen to do business during the Open Night Market at Kedai Kepayan (Yu Sang), Damai Multipurpose Hall parking lots, Manggatal Tamu Ground  and Jalan Segama to apply to DBKK for permission.

She said the offer is on a first come first served basis, while for the locations for stalls in Foh Sang and Lido are for existing hawkers only.

To ensure safety and smoothness of traffic, she advised the public and road users to comply with the instructions of the enforcement personnel on duty and use alternative roads and nearby public car parks during the temporary road closures.
