July 13 mention for Kota Belud murder charge
Kota Kinabalu: The High Court here, Tuesday, set July 13 for mention the case of a 37-year-old man charged with murdering a man in Kota Belud two years ago.

Judicial Commissioner Amelati Parnell fixed the date for Masdin Minin during the pre-trial case management.

The prosecution informed the court that all the documents had been served to the defence.

But the prosecution applied for the period of two months to wait for the outcome of the representation letter wrote by the defence.

On Dec 15, 2021, Masdin pleaded not guilty to killing one Jaipin Girik, 37, between 1pm and 2pm on March 2020 at Liang forest, Kg Rampayan Ulu, Kota Belud.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty on conviction.

Pending the date, the court ordered Masdin to be remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Azreen Yas Mohamad Ramli appeared for the prosecution while counsel Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah defended Masdin.

Meanwhile, in another case, the court set June 17 for further mention of the appeal against the acquittal of a lawyer and a businessman from the charge of cheating a man of RM300,000 over earthwork projects in Kudat.

The court fixed the date for Siti Azizah Mohd Yusop, 44, and Rinius Marung, 54, pending the grounds of judgement.

The prosecution told the court that the grounds of judgement had not been received yet and that the prosecution applied for another date.

The prosecution had appealed against the decision to free the duo without their defence being called.

Siti Azizah and Rinius were accused of cheating a man over an agreement letter on the earthwork projects which caused the man had issued two cheques worth RM150,000 each.

The offence allegedly took place at 10am on Nov 10, 2016 in a law firm in Api-Api Centre, here.

Siti Azizha and Rinius were represented by counsel Amli Nohin and Luke Ressa Balang, respectively.
