LAHAD DATU: The District Wildlife Department (SWD) will conduct continuous monitoring in Felda Sahabat 16 beach area following the recent sighting of a crocodile.

District Wildlife Officer Silvester Saimin said the monitoring is aimed at identifying the number of crocodiles in the area to facilitate further action.

“We will see the results of the monitoring. If necessary, we will install traps to catch crocodiles in the area.

“We will also put up a warning sign in areas near villages and public areas,” he said.

According to him, a team of wildlife personnel rushed to Felda Sahabat 16, near the General Operations Force (PGA) Headquarters, after receiving information regarding the presence of crocodiles in the area.

Silvester said they also received a video related to crocodiles in the area which was spread in social media on June 10.

“The crocodile often appears on the beach during high tide.

“On the day of the incident, the crocodile went up the beach around 6pm and attacked a dog,” he said.
