RANAU: A local man was severely hurt while two others escaped with minor injuries after their 4x4 vehicle collided with two tankers near here on Tuesday.

District’s Fire and Rescue Department Chief, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib said the incident happened at about 10.54am at Jalan Ranau-Telupid near Sabah Tea in Kg Nalapak.

He said, in the incident, the three victims involved were the driver and passengers of the 4x4 Isuzu Dmax, while the drivers of the tankers were unharmed.

“We received a call from other motorists informing us that there had been an accident at the said location. We then rushed a fire truck and an EMRS van to the scene along with eight personnel led by PBK II (KUP) Niel Thompson.

“Upon arrival at the location situated 19 kilometers from the Ranau Fire Station, we found that an accident had occurred involving two tanker trucks colliding with an Isuzu Dmax which had overturned on its back.

“There were three victims who managed to get out of the vehicle on their own before the Fire Brigade arrived at the location. The action of the rescuers provided initial treatment and then sent the victim to Ranau Hospital on an EMRS machine for further treatment,” he said.

He said, as a result of the accident, one of the victims, which was the driver of the Dmax, suffered severe injuries. Another agency that was at the scene was the PDRM, and the operation ended at 11.36am.

Meanwhile, Ridwan advised the public, especially road users to be extra careful when driving on the road during the festive season, especially during the night time and when it rains.

“Be mindful of the limited visibility during rainy nights, especially in the village areas where there are no street lights installed and the roads are narrower. Make sure the vehicles are working properly and headlights are working well,” he said.
