Man jailed for threatening to kill his mother
Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man, who threatened to kill his mother if he was not given RM600 within 24 hours was sent to prison for 12 months jail on Friday.

Kamarul Ain Jiran pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence against one Nurul Norasyikin Abdullah, 57, at 6.20pm on June 19 in a house at Kg Likas at Jalan Kurol Melangi.

The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to two years or fine or both if convicted.

Earlier, the prosecution in tendering the facts of the case, told the court that the complainant was in the house when Kamarul had threatened he will kill her if she did not give him RM600 within 24 hours.

“Saya akan bunuh satu keluarga dalam 24 jam kalau duit tidak masuk ke dalam akaun (I will kill the whole family in 24 hours if the money is not banked into my account),” said Kamarul, the court heard.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, said the incident was witnessed by Kamarul’s sister and her husband, who then left the house with the complainant.

Further police investigations revealed that Kamarul had one conviction record last year and was just released from prison end of April this year.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence representing Kamarul, requested leniency on the grounds that he has two dependants and that he was remorseful.

In another case, a 21-year-old man was jailed 16 months on two counts of disposing stolen jewellery.

Chong Yun Khen pleaded guilty to disposing of a gold ring and gold earrings belonging to one  Hwong Yew Kiong at I-Diamond, Wisma Merdeka, between 11am and 1pm on June 12 this year.

He also admitted to disposing of a stolen gold bracelet belonging to one Hwong Yew Kiong at the Kedai Emas Kinabalu, in Wisma Merdeka, between 1pm and 6pm on May 21, this year.

Chong was sentenced to 16 months jail on each count and was ordered to serve the sentence concurrently.

Each charge framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.
