PAPAR: A 17-year-old was killed on the spot after he was thrown out of his vehicle following an accident along Km 23 Jalan Papar Lama-Kota Kinabalu, here, Saturday.

District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the incident occurred at about 12.45pm while the victim, traveling from Papar to Kota Kinabalu, lost control of Perodua Viva and crashed into a trailer parked on the road shoulder.

“Due to the impact, the compact car was badly damaged while the driver was thrown out of his vehicle onto the road,” he said.

Kamaruddin said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kinarut Health Clinic Medical Officer and was later brought to Papar Hospital for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 by Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Chief Inspector Jagger Jeffery.

Meanwhile, in KOTA BELUD, a man was killed and two others were injured in an accident at Jalan Kota Belud-Kota Marudu, Saturday.

The 40-year-old Proton Saga driver was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering serious head injuries.

Initial investigations, according to Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain, showed that they were travelling from Kota Marudu to Kota Kinabalu when the 9pm accident happened.

The driver was said to have lost control of the car while negotiating a downhill stretch, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times before crashing.

The impact sent the driver and the passenger seated in the front  flying out of the vehicle and into a roadside drain.

The 33-year-old passenger in the front seat suffered serious injuries, but the 39-year-old passenger in the back seat only had minor wounds.

In this regard, the police advise drivers to use caution and to abide by traffic laws, including making sure their cars are in good working order.
