SANDAKAN: The Sabah Electrical Sdn Bhd (SESB) conducted an integrated operation that resulted in the seizure of 271.5kg of wires and cables used for illegal electricity connections in Kg Mangkalinau and Bandar Leetat, here, on Monday,

The 9am to 1pm operation involved 48 SESB technical staff with the assistance of the police, Energy Commission, Sandakan District Council and Immigration Department on 60 houses in the two locality.

“Illegal and unsafe electricity connections by the occupants of these squatter settlements increase safety risks such as fire due to short circuits and electric shocks,” SESB Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Haji Jaafar said in a statement, here, on Monday.

Every year, the SESB carries out hundreds of operations to stop power theft or illegal connections in squatter settlements.

SESB never gets tired of warning people about the risks of such acts through print and electronic media, not only to the people who engage in them but also to property and the general public.

The public and community leaders were urged to immediately inform SESB if they discovered any illegal connections in their respective areas so that immediate action could be taken because, in addition to costing SESB revenue, such acts are also unsafe, according to Mohd Yaakob, who said that SESB would continue such operations.
