Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the State Government has been aggressively pushing its agenda of encouraging the development of renewable and clean energy.

He said this is by implementing programmes that would help promote economic activities and accelerate economic growth that will ultimately shape and strengthen Sabah’s renewable energy and green industry sector.

In March last year, he said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah – Barisan Nasional (GRS-BN) State Government launched the five-year Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan, a roadmap that sets out a new strategic direction for Sabah’s economic development and high on the State Government’s agenda is the importance of green sustainability to not only address environmental issues and the global warming phenomenon, but also an asset for economic development and state revenue.

“The current global emphasis on climate change and sustainable living has prompted significant moves, both by governments and the private sector to focus on the benefits of green technology," he said in a speech read by his Assistant Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, at an event in Kota Kinabalu today.
