CYBERSECURITY Malaysia, is a national cybersecurity specialist and technical agency under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (K-KOMM), to empower and strengthen the level of cybersecurity in Malaysia.

The agency was established as a Company Limited-by-Guarantee under the supervision of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) on 20 March 2007. Pursuant to the Federal Government Ministerial Order 2019, CyberSecurity Malaysia is placed under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) effective from May 21, 2018 until now.

CyberSecurity Malaysia is committed to provide a broad range of cybersecurity innovation-led services, programmes, and initiatives to reduce vulnerability of digital systems, and at the same time strengthen Malaysia’s self-reliance in cyberspace.

With today’s digital technology era, cybersecurity has become more risky and complicated because the more technology evolves, the more complex and sophisticated the threats and cyberattacks become.

Cybercriminals are also more active, brave and more sophisticated, using new methods, techniques and more effective tactics to launch cyber threats and attacks to cause a negative impact on national development and threaten the well-being and harmony of the people.

As a proactive and committed agency to ensuring the safety and well-being of the country’s cyberspace, CyberSecurity Malaysia through the SiberKASA programme has produced more than 35 cybersecurity products and services covering Cybersecurity Responsive Services, Cybersecurity Proactive Services, Outreach and Capacity Building, Strategic Studies and Engagement as well as Industry and Research Development.

The products and services have been classified under three components, namely human, processes and technology as a holistic approach to develop, empower, sustain and strengthen the infrastructure and cybersecurity ecosystem in Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s history dates back to Jan 13, 1997 when the Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) was established to address computer security issues amongst Malaysian internet users.

In 2001, the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER) was established as a Department in MIMOS Berhad when the National IT Council (NITC) proposed an agency to be formed to address ICT security issues in Malaysia. MyCERT became a part of NISER.

To address the growing cyber threats in critical areas, the National Information Technology Council (NITC) Meeting 1/2006 decided to implement the National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP). NISER was mandated to provide technical support for the NCSP implementation and rebranded as CyberSecurity Malaysia to reflect its wider mandate and larger role.

On 20 August 2007, the Prime Minister of Malaysia officiated CyberSecurity Malaysia and launched its new logo. This year, CyberSecurity Malaysia celebrates it 25 years silver jubilee.
