Najib asks Federal Court to review its decision to uphold his SRC International conviction

Kuala Lumpur: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has sought for the Federal Court to review its decision two weeks ago to maintain his conviction and sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment along with a RM210 million fine, his lawyer confirmed today.
Rahmat Hazlan told Malay Mail that the review application was filed at the Federal Court at around 4pm today.

He confirmed that Najib had via Shafee & Co filed an application for review of the Federal Court’s entire August 23 decision to uphold the conviction and uphold the sentencing in the SRC case.
Previously, senior criminal lawyer Salim Bashir Bhaskaran had told Malay Mail that a review bid is an application to get a rehearing of an appeal, and said a separate panel at the Federal Court would hear an application to review the appeal decision.
Today is Najib’s 15th day in Kajang Prison after he failed in his final appeal on August 23 to overturn his guilty verdict over the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd’s funds.
Yesterday, both Najib’s lead defence lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun confirmed that Najib had filed a petition for pardon within the 14-day period from the August 23 decision date.

The filing of the pardon bid within the 14-day timeline enables Najib to remain as Pekan MP while waiting for his pardon bid to be decided on.
