Kota Kinabalu: The Monfort Charity Golf Tournament returns with attractive prizes for the winners.

The 13th edition is going to be held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club, here, on Nov 26, after an absence of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For this edition, Fook Loi Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd Executive Director Thomas Chiu said the company is offering a Proton X70 worth RM120,000 as the hole-in-one prize for a lucky golfer in all Par-3 holes (hole No 5, 8, 12 and 17).

“With the hole-in-one prize being one of the exciting features of the charity event, Fook Loi Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd is pleased to be sponsoring the Proton X70 as the prize offering,” he said.

Organising Chairman Datuk Willie Wong said at its 13th year of running, given its modest beginning in 2007, the Montfort annual charity event has now grown to become a household name among the regulars of the golfing community, and thus an annual gathering for the golfers for a time of fellowship and networking. “This annual charity event is much more than a leisurely day of golf. Your participation fee and any additional donations will directly benefit Monfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC), and are 100 per cent tax deductible.” Corporate sectors, he said, continue to lend their support to the event. The second hole-in-one prize for hole No 5 and 17 is a cash prize of RM20,000 sponsored by Muhibbah Dua (M) Sdn Bhd and Raspand Motor Sdn Bhd. He further said, besides these attractive hole-in-one prizes, there are a wide range of lucky draw prizes such as accommodation vouchers for resorts as well as an LED television set.

“Since the pandemic has restricted fundraising events for the past two years, the fund raised at this charity golf event will be even more crucial for the continuous livelihood of 197 youths under Montfort’s care including 73 school-going youths at two rural hostels in Kiulu and Sandakan,” he said. It was made to understand that MYTC’s annual expenditure is between RM3.6 million and RM4 million.

The organisers are targeting 140 participants for the tournament, which include various members of the society including ministers, industrial and corporate sector leaders who will be invited to take part in this event.

The tournament will be divided into three categories – Open, Senior and Ladies. Only limited slots are available and those who keen to join the tournament can contact the Secretariat of the organising committee. Registration forms and payments should be submitted on or before Nov 17.
