TAWAU: Two ice factories in Jalan Sin Onn and Jalan Apas, as well as two restaurants, were ordered to close after they were found to be dirty and deemed harmful to public health.The directive was issued under the Infectious Disease Prevention Act during an enforcement operation on Wednesday by a team from the Tawau Health Office and police.

Tawau Health Officer Dr Shameer Khan Sulaiman, who led the operation, said the concerned premises were given 14 days to carry out improvements.
“A re-inspection will be done before they are allowed to operate,” he said.
He said the party inspected two ice factories and 15 food premises in the Muhibbah Bal area, Jalan Taman Univilla and Jalan Utara.
“Eight summonses were issued under Section 32b of the Food Act during the operation,” he said, adding the team also provided health education to all the premises that were inspected.

“We also gave them guidance to always comply with the conditions set by the Ministry of Health to ensure that the food sold to the public is safe,” he said.
