Tuaran: Women entrepreneurs in Sabah have been urged to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the government to equip themselves with knowledge and skills related to the business world.

Making the call, the Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Juliah Salag said the field of entrepreneurship requires a high level of commitment. “Therefore, knowledge of financial management, business administration and marketing is very important in helping entrepreneurs determine the direction of their business,” said Juliah who is also the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah People’s Representative’s Wives Charity Association (Mutiara GRS) President.

To this end, she said the State Government had prepared a large allocation for the development of women in the State, including in entrepreneurship, this year.

“In the 2022 State Budget, the State Government has allocated as much as RM17.61 million for the implementation of women’s development programmes of which the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) has been allocated as much as RM5.8 million while RM11.8 million of the allocation has been channelled to Yayasan Usaha Maju (YUM).”

The Federal Government, she said, had also allocated RM230 million to increase the business capacity of women entrepreneurs this year. Among the programmes funded were the Women’s Special Business Financing Scheme (DanaNita) under Mara and Tekunita under Tekun Nasional (Tekun), Juliah said when officiating the closing of the Jhewanita Entrepreneurship Programme 2022 at the Bajau Samah Cultural Hall, here, Thursday.

Meanwhile, she said women not only play a major role in the moulding of the next generation but are also contributing to the family economy.

“I always support and call on all women to always equip themselves with knowledge and continue their efforts to help improve the family economy and then become successful entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurship has been seen as a field that can improve the national economy, national competitiveness, individual income, overcome the problem of poverty, create new job opportunities and improve the quality of life.

“I found that the involvement of women is becoming more active with various entrepreneurial activities. “Some of them have started doing business on their own initiative without the help of any party,” she said.
