PAPAR: Two men died after being electrocuted while carrying out maintenance work along Bukit Melinsung, here, Friday.District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the tragedy occurred at 8am when the victims, aged 54 and 61, were carrying out repairs on a solar-powered lamppost that was about to collapse.

“While carrying out repairing works, the post suddenly hit an electrical cable that was nearby. It caused both victims to fall unconscious, believed from being electrocuted as they were holding the post.
“Members of the public passing by contacted police and Papar Hospital over the incident,” he said.
Kamaruddin said medical officers from the hospital pronounced both victims dead, adding there were burnt marks on both during initial inspection
The bodies were brought to the Papar Hospital for post mortem and the case has been classified as sudden death.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 13 personnel led by senior officer Sulaiman Menin after being alerted at 8.25am.
According to the department, three people were involved, but one escaped safely.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Rauf Manda, 61, and Asnan Ab Wahid, 54, while the other who survived was Albrayan Binga, 27.
