LABUAN: The comeback by former Umno leader Dato Suhaili Abdul Rahman in the recent parliamentary election but this time under the Perikatan symbol meant ending the unbeaten three-term stranglehold over the island by Umno.

Suhaili won the seat in 1999 and 2004.
Labuan has been regarded as among the safest seat of Barisan Nasional since it won all the earlier elections since 1990 through Datuk Mulok Awang Damit (two terms) Datuk Yussof Hj Mahal (one term) and Datuk Rozman Isli (two term).
