Anwar is 10th PM
PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim will be appointed as Malaysia’s next prime minister.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman, who will serve as the nation’s 10th prime minister, will be sworn in at 5pm today.

Istana Negara said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, said that this decision was made following discussions with the Malay rulers this morning.

The King called for unity among all MPs to safeguard the future of the country.

“His Majesty stressed that the nation is a treasure that the various leaders are entrusted with. This treasure must be looked after because it will be passed on to the next generation,” the palace said in a statement.

Sultan Abdullah said the reality was that Malaysians were burdened by the unending political turmoil in the nation, and a stable government was needed to usher in economic recovery and national development.

“Dewan Rakyat MPs who have been elected by the people are also reminded to always portray solidarity by prioritising the best service for the people.

“The Malay rulers also support the King’s stand on the formation of a stable government as soon as possible following the general election,” the statement added.
