The 22-year-old Kota Kinabalu lass, who was seeded second in the tournament, upset England’s top seed Alicia Mead 11-8, 12-10, 11-2 in the final to take the crown.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Lai Wen Li continued her impressive run in the United States circuit tour with another victory in the Kinetic 5K Challenger squash tournament held from November 22-25 at the Kinetic Indoor Racquet Club in Florida.

She lived up to her top seed billing with a straight sets 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 win over fifth seed Maria Moya of Ecuador in the final which only took her 33 minutes.

Earlier, she brushed aside unseeded American Anna Shumway 11-2, 11-6, 11-4 in the semi-final following her 12-10, 11-6, 12-10 quarterfinal win over another American player Riya Navani.

The latest triumph not only was her second in as many months, she also did it in style after coming through the tournament without dropping a set.

Lai, who is currently studying at New York’s based Cornell University, also won the women’s singles title at the Greenwich Open Squash tournament held at the Field & Round Hill Clubs, Connecticut late last month.

The 22-year-old Kota Kinabalu lass, who was seeded second in the tournament, upset England’s top seed Alicia Mead 11-8, 12-10, 11-2 in the final to take the crown.

Back in September, she helped to deliver Sabah’s historic Malaysia Games (Sukma) silver medal in squash.

She partnered Yee Xin Ying to reach the women’s doubles final before losing to the Azman siblings – Aifa and Aira of Kedah 10-11, 6-11 in the final.
