Dead – crash victim flung out of car

PAPAR: A 56-year-old teacher died after being thrown out of a vehicle following an accident involving two vehicles at Km 14, Jalan Lama Papar-Kota Kinabalu, here, on Sunday.District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said in the 3.30pm incident, a Perodua Aruz driven by a 42-year-old teacher with two passengers and heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Membakut crashed into a Proton Satria in the opposing lane after it went out of control.ADVERTISEMENT
He said the Satria was driven by a 26-year-old man who was travelling alone towards Kampung Napagas from Kota Kinabalu.
“Due to the impact, the Aruz overturned several times, causing one of the passengers (deceased) to be thrown out of the vehicle through the passenger window.
“The victim was thrown for some 12 metres, causing him to suffer serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene by a Papar Hospital Medical Officer,” he said.
Kamaruddin said the deceased was brought to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for post mortem, while the Satria driver along with the Aruz driver and the other passenger were rushed to the hospital for treatment.ADVERTISEMENT
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, a Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said 11 personnel led by Senior Officer Sulaiman Menin rushed to the scene after being alerted at 3.38pm.

Upon arriving, he said, the team immediately carried out an operation to extricate the victims from the vehicle and sent them to the hospital.
He identified the Aruz passenger who died on the spot as Mohd Noh Hassan, 56, while the driver Musli Mail @ Ismail, 42, suffered serious injuries and another passenger, Khairul Nisham Mohd Yusof,31 suffered minor injuries.
The Staria driver Mohd Sharil Masdi, 26, also suffered minor injuries.
