SESB begins electricity rationing

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has begun energy rationing to several areas in Sabah and Labuan following damage to one of its Independent Power Stations (IPPs) on Wednesday.The action was to ensure the stability of the Sabah Grid System, said SESB Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Ir Idris Mohd Noor.

“Unexpected damage to one of the 95MW power sets of one of the IPPs has forced SESB to ration electricity supply,” he said in a statement.
The incident also resulted in the 911MW existing generation capacity unable to meet the increasing demand for electricity supply, especially during peak load times.
“However, electricity supply was gradually restored starting at 12.28pm on the same day.
“Users are advised to contact Careline SESB at 15454 and 088-515 000 or WhatsApp to 019-852 5427 if there is any power outage,” he added.
