Work harder amid ‘not normal’ times, urges Jokowi
JAKARTA: In opening Tuesday’s national investment coordination meeting, President Joko Widodo (pic), or Jokowi, openly called for state ministries to work harder in facing the forecasted 2023 recession to minimise its effects on the country’s economy.“The key is to work extra hard, we can no longer work normally amidst a situation that is far from normal. 2023 will be far more challenging for all countries in the globe,” said the President on Wednesday.

He also said that stakeholders must synchronise in facing this possible economic crisis. “Policies must be made carefully. The risks are too great for mistakes to be made,” said Jokowi, “We must be careful and I will constantly remind people about this because the situation is not normal.”

One of the strategies Jokowi intends to implement is by attracting as many investors as possible, which he also ordered state ministries to adhere to. In the same meeting, he urged policymakers to ease the path for investors into Indonesia. As reported previously, Jokowi urged policymakers to better facilitate investors to enter Indonesia as he believes the global competition to attract investors are getting harder due to the forecast of a global recession.

“This is why we should not complicate the process. I don’t want to hear reports of [investors having difficulties entering Indonesia] whether it’s at the central or regional government,” said the President at the Ritz-Carlton.

Widodo claims that Indonesia has gained international trust after hosting a number of international events, and called for everyone to use the momentum to its full potential.

“Don’t let the trust slip over mistreating investments that want to land in Indonesia,” he added.
