British PGA Professional and former Malaysian Ladies coach Neil Douglas, who guided the programme with fellow professional Ricardo Petersen from South Africa, said those selected will be trained weekly at their academy.
“We hope this new initiative can give a chance to children who would not have had the chance to try golf before,” he said.
He added that the next phase will be held in different locations. “We are hoping to teach over 5,000 children in a long term plan which will act as a feeder to our high-performance programme and the future will be bright for golf in Sabah.”
Apart from Neil and Ricardo, the academy also boasts the service of another British PGA professional Chris Boyle.
