Sabah deaf athletes shine for Malaysia

Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan deaf athletes shone for the country in two international meets held in the national capital recently.

At the 1st SEA Deaf Games held from November 21-27, they contributed six golds, eight silvers and eight bronzes for the national team.

The golds were won by Ho Choon Seong (bowling men’s trio), Nethaneal Siegfried Enson (bowling men singles & doubles), Aidil A Afiffat Juakim (athletics men’s 800m & 4x100m) and Azlan Kuste (men’s 1,500m).

The silvers came from Ho Choon Seong (bowling men’s doubles & all events), Nethaneal Siegfried Enson (bowling men’s trio), Zuriana Roslan (bowling three-woman team & women’s master final), Nor Misha Nathera Mackeary (bowling women’s trio), Aidil A Asyraff Juakim (athletics men’s 1,500m) and Jesson Noel (athletics men’s shot put), while the bronzes were won by Ho Choon Seong (bowling men singles & master final), Huwainaa Danduan Abdullah (bowling women’s trio & singles), Zuriana Roslan (bowling women’s all event), Aidil A Afiffat Juakim (athletics men’s 200m & 400m) and Scholastica Rofinus, Annzie Benedict, Mary Pamela Syvester (women futsal team).

Earlier in the bowling competition of the 24th Summer Deaflympics held from Oct 20-30, they delivered one gold through Huwainaa Danduan Abdullah, Zuriana Roslan and Nor Misha Nathra Mackery in the women’s five-member team as well as a silver from Ho Choon Seong in the men’s five-member team.

Sabah Deaf Sports Association President Spencer Soo Kok Heng, who was appointed to lead the teams in both competitions, was proud of the athletes achievement and expressed his gratitude to Youth and Sports Ministry, Sabah Sports Council and others including family members for their support.
