Kota Kinabalu: Three Sabahan girls have been selected to undergo trials for the national team bound for the Under-18 Asia Rugby Seven Series 2022 (U-18 AR7s 2022) scheduled to be held in Dasrath Stadium, Nepal on December 10-11.

Leading the list is Emylyea Iskandar from Sandakan, who had represented the national Under-20 team in the Asia Rugby Under-20 tournament in Uzbekistan, and most recently helped Sabah to win bronze at the Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Games (Sukma) in September.

The other two are Chervylyne Shasha Christianus Ading from SM St Michael, Penampang and Annelie Lyokie Aloysius from Maktab Sabah, Kota Kinabalu.

The trio are currently training with other team members at the Pahang Malaysia Sports School as well as in MSN Bukit Jalil from November 28 until December 8.

Sabah Rugby Union (SRU) in a statement released on Friday said they are very honoured to have three more players from the State catching the eyes of the selection panel following the recent inclusion of Marytheresa Raj Thevaraj, Emylyea Iskandar and Mary Isabelle Sylvester in the National Under-20 squad for the Asia Rugby U20 sevens tournament in Uzbekistan.

Its President Vella Tan had earlier said the call-up justified SRU’s emphasis on grassroot development programmes to unearth new talents.

It involved effort to educate and up-skill their panel of coaches and other officials.
