Keningau teacher is recipient of Charismatic Youth Icon

KENINGAU: Keningau Vocational College’s English teacher, Dr Sirhajwan Idek was selected as the National Charismatic Youth Icon recipient by the Youth and Sports Ministry at the National Youth Awards ceremony held at a hotel in Sepang, Saturday.The award was one of the 15 presented by Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh.

Dr Sirhajwan who went through the selection and evaluation process from 20 shortlisted candidates from hundreds of applications before progressing to the top three finalists received RM10,000 cash, trophy and certificate
He received the recognition for his contributions in various aspects of education. Since 2016, he has trained and managed nearly 500 of his students to present their projects at innovation competitions and conferences in person and online.
Many of these students have successfully received awards and grants. In addition, he has also successfully cultivated art practice by guiding more than 200 students in the field of performance, writing and visual arts using English as a medium since the end of 2020.
He always helps students with special needs in the college to participate in language and innovation competitions.

Many students who wre guided by Dr Sirhajwan have successfully forged a name on the international scene and among them Alesyah Asa who is the top 10 finalists of the Global Student Prize in 2022 and Zurainnizah Omar who successfully won an award through the OD Impact Challenge in the same year.
He also often conducts innovation and best practice workshops in schools in Sabah and other states.

The Director of the college, Johari @ Jaibet Sabin, was happy with the recognition because it was able to give a platform to Dr Sirhajwan Idek to further expand his noble efforts to help dignify education in this country.
