Nepalese latest Mount Kinabalu victim

RANAU: A Nepalese in his 30s became the latest victim on Mount Kinabalu when he suffered a swollen ankle while climbing on Wednesday.Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened around 7.45am at Km 6.1 of the Mount Kinabalu climbing trail.

“The Ranau Fire and Rescue Station received a call about the incident from a member of the Mount Kinabalu Search and Rescue Team (Mosar).
“A team of rescuers led by operations commander Suparin Kumin and two mountain guides were rushed to the scene,” he said, adding that after being given initial treatment, the victim who refused to be carried on a stretcher was escorted down to Timpohon Gate on foot.
Two incidents on Mount Kinabalu have been reported this year, the first on Jan 9 involving a 45-year-old local man who suffered muscle spasm.
