Acting president to be named soon
“The caretaker or acting president for Safa will only be announced once a supreme council and management meeting is held to discuss the matter,” Jelani said.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) will soon be announcing the name of its acting  president following the resignation of Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin earlier this month.

Safa secretary general Dato’ Jelani Hamdan, who made the announcement on Friday, said a meeting will be called in the very near future before making any decision on naming the right candidate for the top post.

“Datuk Seri Bung Moktar has confirmed to me that his statement on resigning from the president’s post with immediate effect as published on social media on January 8 is final and I had just received the official letter from him.

“The caretaker or acting president for Safa will only be announced once a supreme council and management meeting is held to discuss the matter,” he said.

He reassured the football supporters that the temporary absence of a president in the State body will not have any negative effect on the State teams’ preparation for the upcoming competitions.

“I can assure the football fans and public that they have nothing to worry about in the preparation of the State teams in the new season.

“All activities to prepare the State teams for the Super League, Under-19, Under-20, reserve league competitions are on track as required by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM),” said Jelani, who is also Sabah FC director.

Bung had earlier cited the reason for his shock resignation was to enable him to focus fully on his political career.

The former Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan was unanimously elected as president by all Safa affiliated bodies in the extraordinary general meeting held in June 2021 after being appointed as acting president in December 2020 following the resignation of Datuk Peter Anthony.
