Kota Kinabalu: Police are tight-lipped over the arrest of eight police officers in connection with a murder in Tawau.

Confirming this, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the detainees were remanded for seven days.

Four senior officers were among the eight. He said that a special investigating team from Bukit Aman had been formed.

“Police have not released a full statement on this case since it is still too early and it is feared that it will interfere with the investigations,” he said Saturday.

He also requested that the media refrain from making any security-related speculations.

“The case is still under investigation and a press conference will be held after the investigation is completed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force Headquarters 2 (ATB 2) patrol boat which capsized after being hit by a large wave off Pulau Berhala in Sandakan on Jan. 25 was recovered the next day.

The Unit 2 Diving Branch, Marine Regional Headquarters 2 (Mawilla 2) recovered the boat through a Salvage Operation.

On the day of the incident, the Mawilla 2 Operations Room received initial information from Joint Headquarters 2 (Mk ATB 2) stating that a patrol boat belonging to ATB 2 had sunk around Pulau Berhala.

All crew were rescued by the 15th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) who were patrolling the area.

Mawilla 2 then took immediate action by activating Operation Search (SAR) and Salvage in an effort to find and recover the boat.

On Jan 26, at 8.30 am, the Mk ATB 2 informed that the boat had been found in an almost completely sunken state.

Mawilla Diving Team 2 has been arranged to move on Combat Boat 215 to carry out Operation Salvage on the boat.

The operation took two hours to raise the boat which was then towed to Batu Sapi Jetty, here.

The quick action was due to close cooperation of all security agencies involved clearly demonstrates the efficiency and level of professionalism of the national security team which is always at the highest level in dealing with any unforeseen possibility.

In addition, the effort also indirectly showcases the readiness of the Navy Diving Team which is ready to be mobilised at a certain time in carrying out SAR and Salvage operations.
