Kapak Rimba emerge champions

LABUAN: The Kapak Rimba Limbang from Sarawak emerged champions in the Traditional Gasing (top spinning) Competition in conjunction with the Seborneo Labuan Gasing Carnival 2023 and received RM2,000.Sipitang team took home a cash prize of RM1,000 as first runners-up, Lawas team from Sarawak received RM700 as second runners-up, while the Labuan B team grabbed the fourth place and received RM500. The competition was officiated by Labuan Corporation Chief Executive Officer Ridwan Mohd Ismail.

He said, “the participation of young people as backers in this traditional game is indeed very gratifying and it needs to be held as often as possible to maintain this cultural treasure and discover new talents in the Borneo region.”
“This traditional game competition can forge rapport that is already established and friendship in the state of Borneo in particular.”
Nine teams participated in the tournament, namely Pantai (Labuan A), Lawas, Kapak Rimba (Limbang, Tanjung Aru (Labuan B), Labuan C, Anak Perantai (Limbang), Bukit Kuda (Labuan D), Anak Sarawak (Limbang) and Sipitang (Sabah) which took place from 27 -29 January.
The top-spinning competition was organised by the Labuan Biskita Fishing Association (PPBL) in collaboration with the Labuan Corporation and the Labuan Federal Territory Topping Association (PEGAWILA).
