Tuaran: A five-year-old boy who was trapped in a locked Perodua Axia, here, was successfully freed by members of the public, Thursday.

It is understood that during the 11.45 am incident, the victim had fallen asleep after being left unattended for 10 minutes by his mother who went to a shop nearby.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said they received an emergency call four minutes later.

He said a total of four firemen rushed to the scene along with an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle.

“Upon arrival, personnel found the victim was already in the arms of his mother.

“The victim’s mother was in a state of panic and cried for help before members of the public smashed one of the vehicle’s windows to unlock the door,” he said.

“Sleeping with the car air-conditioner and engine running is an invitation to many dangers.

“The risk is higher when you leave a small child alone even for a brief moment. Fortunately this was noticed early before anything unwanted happened,” Abdul Qawie said, adding the boy was unharmed.
