PAPAR: Fast food outlet McDonald’s will employ some 100 locals when it opens a branch at Parklane City, in Benoni, here, before end of this year.

The Licensee of McDonald’s Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd Vice-President Mohamad Nasri Nor, said Papar residents would be given priority.

“We are looking for people especially locals, and expanding the fast food outlets in Sabah. We plan to double the number of stores within five years.

“Once the McDonald’s outlet is completed at Parklane City, tentatively on Sept 16 which coincides with Malaysia Day, we will open for hiring three months before its official opening so that we have time to train the new crew to be familiar with our system and able to run the outlet here,” he said.

Mohamad Nasri who is also company’s Chief Development Officer said this to reporters after signing a tenancy agreement on shoplot No.150 of Parklane City for the outlet, at Benoni Sales Gallery, here.

The developer for Parklane City, WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, on behalf of WSG Properties Sdn Bhd, also signed, witnessed by McDonald’s licensee representatives.

Susan also presented renovation plan of the outlet which has been approved by the Papar District Council to Mohamad Nasri at the event.

The total renovation cost of the outlet is RM5 million.

Mohamad said opening its outlet here has been part of their expansion plan as they see the potential growth and population here. He said there are 13 outlets in Sabah and five are planned to be opened. Opening the outlet here would be their first for southern part of Kota Kinabalu along Papar up to Sipitang while another four to be opened in the northern area including the east coast.

“Our outlet covers 4,000 sq ft but the whole area is slightly less than one-acre and there will be a drive-thru, a delivery centre and also a dining-in restaurant.

“We are going to use our latest technology in the outlet here where customers can order thru an application known as Mobile Order Purchase (MOP). Download the app and you can order without getting through the counter and can just pay using their mobile handphones,” he said.

Mohamad Nasri said they have plans to connect with the local communities here as part of their contribution to the people that aims at children and senior citizens.

Susan said Papar residents have been asking her to bring McDonald’s to Parklane City so that they do not have to go the State Capital to enjoy the fast food.

“Before signing the agreement, we also had a ground breaking ceremony at its site for Shoplot No.150 and we will go full swing for its construction and make sure it is ready by Sept 16, 2023.

“We aim to hand over the premises  within the fourth quarter this year before its  last date on Nov 20 as stipulated in the agreement,” she said.

Apart from McDonald’s, Susan said there would be a cinema, hotels, a shopping mall, well-known commercial banks, private clinics, pharmacy, and other popular fast food, among others, at Parklane City as well as its upcoming residential parks at Parklane Villa and condominiums that would boost Benoni as a vibrant and progressive new township.
