Datuk cop among seven charged in Tawau e-hailing driver murder case

TAWAU: Seven more individuals, including a Datuk senior police officer, were charged in the Magistrate's Court, here, on Wednesday, in connection with the murder of an e-hailing driver that has attracted nationwide attention since the discovery of the victim’s body on Jan 16.
Five officer and rank-and-file policemen namely Rosdi Rastam, 44; Dennis Anak Enit, 44; Fabian Rungam, 43; Khairul Azman Bakar, 47; Mohd Azlan Sakaran, 39 and a civilian, Vivien Fabian, 34; were charged with reaching a common intention to kill Nurman Bakaratu, 61, in a palm oil plantation near Jalan Anjur Juara, Jalan Apas, Mile 5, between 7.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Jan 13.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code read with Section 34 of the same code, which carries the death penalty, if convicted.
Meanwhile, Datuk Mat Zaki Md Zain, 58, is accused of conspiring with all the six other accused to kill the victim at the same time, date and place.
