TAWAU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said around 1,300 buyers in Taman PR1MA Ranggu who previously faced Certificate of Occupancy (OC) issues are likely to receive their house keys before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

This came after the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) submitted the OC to a representative of the developer - Prinsip Hasil Sdn Bhd (PHSB) - in a brief but meaningful ceremony at the MPT Operations Room on Monday.

The OC was delivered by MPT president Joseph Pang to the representative, Rifkiy Maring, who acted as Construction Management Consultant, in the presence of Nizam and Balung assemblyman Datuk Hamild Awang and PHSB owner Rahim Larry Koh.

According to Nizam, the handing over of OC would bring solace to home buyers who are anxious because they have to pay the instalments through wage deductions but unable to occupy the units. Likewise, he hopes the developer will continue to be accountable for ensuring that all small defects, such as roads, lights and technical concerns are rectified.

“This is very important to ensure that there are no issues or complaints from buyers that cause trouble for all parties,” he told the media after the OC Taman PR1MA Ranggu handing over, whose building project began in 2019.

Nizam, who is also an Apas assemblyman, said that the house buyer action committee contacted him during the past General Election (PRU) and urged Tawau leaders to assist in resolving the matter.

“I and Hamild agreed in November to assist them before Hari Raya and today it was proven  when the OC that the buyers were hoping for became a reality with the submission of the documents,” he added.

Nizam also expressed his appreciation to MPT as the local authority responsible for ensuring that housing conditions are in good condition before issuing the OC.

He said that the OC was only issued by MPT after the developer met all the conditions and regulations put in place to protect the home buyers and they were satisfied with the condition of the built house.

Meanwhile, Rahim said, his party will ensure that all matters and issues arising are in good condition before the process of handing over the house keys to the buyers is done in two or three weeks.

According to him, the project was an initiative of the former Apas assemblyman, the late Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan and the previous leadership who wanted affordable and cheap but quality housing to be created for the local residents of this district.

He is happy that the issue related to Taman PR1MA Ranggu can finally be resolved due to the commitment of all parties, especially Nizam, Hamild and Joseph and other related parties.

He hopes that the buyers of the house units will be happy to live in the housing and enjoy a better quality of life.

Previously, the buyers of the home units concerned, most of whom are government officials and pensioners, are said to have organised two series of peaceful demonstrations because they felt pressed when the MPT did not issue an OC and they still did not live in the property they bought.

Some are also stressed due to instances of having to take salary deductions for bank loans since 2017 but still have to rent houses resulting in their family expenses to rise.
