Kuala Lumpur: All eyes will be on Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 13.

The 60-year-old is among the five actresses in the running for the Actress in a Leading Role award for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

As the big day draws closer, some have taken to Twitter to predict the winners in key categories.

A scroll through Twitter feed showed that many people are anticipating to see Yeoh grab the prestigious award.

In an article published yesterday, The New York Times also predicted Yeoh as the winner of the best actress category.

If she wins, she will be the first Malaysian to walk away with the most sought-after acting honour in Hollywood.

The other nominees for the category are Cate Blanchett (Tár), Viola Davis (The Woman King), Ana de Armas (Blonde) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till).

In anticipation of Yeoh’s possible first Oscar, billboard provider Visual Retale (VR) took the opportunity to pay tribute to the actress on big screens.

Two large digital out-of-home LED screens in Jalan Bangsar and Jalan Puchong in KL displayed Yeoh’s picture bearing the message “The pride of Malaysia Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh”.

Speaking to Malay Mail, VR chief executive officer Sailendra Kanagasundram said he is proud of Yeoh for what she has already achieved for Malaysia.

“This is our little way of giving her the support we can.

“I wish her all the best for the Oscars.”

Sailendra said the visual was put up this week and will continue to celebrate her wins on the big screens for another week regardless of the Oscars’ outcome.

This awards season has been a bountiful one for Yeoh, who has picked multiple nominations and won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy at the recent Golden Globes Awards.

Last month, she became the first Asian actress to win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2023 for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
