Esscom programme improves income of residents

Esscom Public Action Division Director Mohd Dzulhairul Shah Dzulkifli said the Esscom socio-economic programme, which was held from March 6 to 9 with the Human Resource Development Department (JPSM), could help improve the income sources of residents.
LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) has carried out various skills and training programmes to meet socio-economic needs of residents in Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), apart from maintaining security in the area. Esscom Public Action Division Director Mohd Dzulhairul Shah Dzulkifli said the Esscom socio-economic programme, which was held from March 6 to 9 with the Human Resource Development Department (JPSM), could help improve the income sources of residents.

“A total of 160 participants were offered to attend six types of short-term basic skills courses, namely mobile phone repair, seafood-based food manufacturing, soy product processing and basic sewing courses for baju kurung and robes.
“Besides that, men’s and women’s hairdressing courses as well as cake, bun and pastry making courses were held in Kunak and Lahad Datu,” he said when closing the Esscom socio-economic programme, here, Friday.
He said during the programme, Esscom also held briefings on security and i-Suri insurance as well as exhibitions by agencies such as Mara, National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (Tekun), Amanah Ikhtiar and Social Security Organisation (Socso).
Meanwhile, a hair dressing course participant, Arman Rusli, 47, said he plans to open a small salon in the village after this.

“This programme helped me improve my knowledge and skills as a barber and maybe I will set up a mobile salon as a start,” he said.
