LABUAN: The arrival of a 250-tonne wood-hulled boat (kumpit) from Tawi Tawi was the first good thing to happen to the island since the economy was battered by the Covid-19 pandemic and the removal of its duty-free privileges by the previous Umno-led Federal Government.

At a glance the boat’s arrival may seem insignificant but, in fact, it is viewed as a small bite in a big cake given the 4.5 million customer marker in the Bansamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), of which Tawi Tawi is the gateway.
