Drink-driving: Five men are fined RM50,750

Kota Kinabalu: Five men were fined a total of RM50,750 and jailed one day each by the Traffic Court here Tuesday for drink-driving.Sylvester Honorius, Railly Kausu, Danny Ng, Shanipal Singh and Alvin Adrian aged between 24 and 39, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at different roads here.

Sylvester was ordered to pay a fine of RM10,300 or three months in jail and sentenced to one day in jail for the offence committed along Jalan Kepayan at 11.30pm on Nov 23, 2022.
Railly was fined RM10,250 or three months’ jail plus one day in jail for the offence committed at Jalan Bundusan at 10.09pm on Sept 10, 2021 while Danny was fined RM10,200 or three months’ jail and one day in jail for committing the offence at Jalan Lintas at 2am on April 25, last year.
Shanipal and Alvin were each ordered to pay a fine of RM10,000 or three months’ jail and one day in jail for the offence committed at Jalan Coastal at 11.52pm on Dec 31, 2021 and at 1.15am on May 4, the same year, respectively.
The five requested leniency.

The magistrate ordered the five to serve their one-day jail with effect from Tuesday.
The five were respectively charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fined between RM10,000 and RM30,000.
