KOTA KINABALU: The police have arrested two men believed to be involved in a car showroom break-in, here, recently.

They were detained upon landing at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

CCTV footage captured the duo, 36 and 39, smashing the glass doors of an ungated Kepayan car showroom, along Jalan Lintas, and drove off with two Nissan Navaras, at about 4.20am, on March 8.

Police are also actively hunting a 37-year-old man who acted as their getaway driver in a Perodua MyVi.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said one of the four-wheel drives was sold to a 28-year-old house broker in Kolombong for RM10,000.

“The buyer is being kept in police custody for further investigations. We have reason to believe he bought the car knowing that it was stolen,” he said.

“A brand new four-wheel drive being sold for RM10,000 raises plenty of doubts and the man seemed to have none.

“He had even swapped the rims to fit his own Nissan Navara which has been seized.

“Moreover, the transaction was done directly without any advertisements.”

The case, he said, could have been settled sooner if the suspects did not flee to the peninsula.

It turns out our Selangor counterparts have determined them to be involved in three cases of housebreaking during their one-week stay there.

“The 8.29pm arrest had them confess their crimes which led us to the locations of the two vehicles recovering losses amounting RM360,000,” he said.
