Kg Kaiduan chosen as Kampung Siaga 221
Armizan said the Civil Defence Force (CDF) aims to establish 14 Kampung Siaga 221, one in each state, this year to prepare the villages to face various disasters.
PAPAR: Kampung Kaiduan, Papar, located around 37 kilometres (km) from Kota Kinabalu, has been selected as a Kampung Siaga 221 for Sabah, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said.

The selection of Kampung Siaga 221 is based on seven main criteria - rural location, exposed to disasters, being cut off during disasters, limited communication coverage, community structure, community readiness and limited logistics.

“Based on these factors, Kaiduan has been selected as Kampung Siaga 221 for Sabah. The objective of this programme is to boost local community preparedness to face emergencies, disasters and enemies.

“The programme is at its pioneer stage and will focus on areas exposed to risks of disasters and emergencies,” he said during his speech at the launch of the programme at Kampung Kaiduan, near here, Saturday.

He said the Civil Defence Force (CDF) aims to establish 14 Kampung Siaga 221, one in each state, this year to prepare the villages to face various disasters.

“Currently, six states have launched the programme, including Terengganu, Sarawak, Perak, Kelantan and Pahang.

“The programme aims to boost public resilience and readiness towards emergencies, humanitarian services, crises, disasters and war to ensure the country’s prosperity.

“Various activities have been planned for this programme including emergency assistance basic training, CPR, choking, bandaging and tying, theory and practical safety wiring sessions by Giat Mara, and CDF assets and logistics exhibitions,” he said.

Armizan said the programme aimed to expose the community to civil defence knowledge so that they could act and mobilise quickly in the event of an emergency or disaster.

“Awareness and initial response is important to ensure the safety of your family and community. With knowledge and training, we are confident that the local communities can play an effective role as first responders,” he said.

He also announced an allocation of RM55,000 for the village’s suspension bridge at the launch.
