Kota Kinabalu: State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew wants complaints against her Ministry to be lodged formally instead of through anonymous chain messages on social media.A message forwarded many times on WhatsApp recently claimed that a senior Sabah Tourism Board (STB) officer has been put under the microscope for noticeable worldwide travels and extravagant spending.ADVERTISEMENT
The writer told the “officer” concerned to be more mindful of travels because “it is being noticed and is becoming a perception issue”.
They said Christina should demand greater scrutiny of STB’s accounts and operations amid growing concerns that taxpayers are funding an overpaid and spendthrift government agency despite record visitor numbers before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Christina, when asked, rubbished it as hearsay and reminded the public not to take anything viral as facts.
“If there is such a complaint, lodge it officially to the Ministry and then we will look at it. But so far, it’s only viral, so I don’t think it’s fair to say all this things,” she told reporters.
