Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Arm Wrestling Association returned home with a total of 16 golds, two silvers and six bronzes at the National Arm Wrestling Championship held at Paradigm Mall, Selangor on March 18-19.
Team leader Jolly Johnson said there was no overall title given even though Sabah contingent managed to win the most golds during the competition, while the closest team from Putera Jaya only managed 11 golds.
Jolly was among six athletes that delivered two golds each and the other double winners were Earl Dominic, Damsi Abdullah, Wayne Weew Oliver, Dick Junior Daniel Marcus and Radical Randy.
The other medal contributors were Juan Gary Dalliam Binsos (1 gold, 1 bronze), Joffey Jolly (1 gold, 1 bronze), Rony John Robert (1 gold, 1 silver), Michael Ford (1 gold), Micky Cheah Kok Fui (1 silver, 1 bronze), Victor Larry (1 bronze) and Jumestalon Chong Jun (2 bronzes).
Michael Ford was also named the overall champion in the right hand category.
“I am very proud of our achievement this time. We had a very small squad with only 15 members but managed to beat other teams with the most wins.
“Only Wilson Chong and Elson Henry failed to make it to the podium.
“Despite giving their very best, they were unable to take home any medal and it was just unfortunate that luck was not on their side,” he said.
