THE universe is a complex and interconnected system that constantly communicates with us in various ways. These messages can take many forms, including the coincidental occurrence of events, dreams, signs, symbols, intuition, and gut feelings.

On Thursday (23rd March), I was fortunate to witness a rare sunset on Silent Day in Bali, which the Balinese interpreted as a message of gratitude from the cosmos for respecting the Earth.

The pleasant sunset on the Island of Gods captivated the people and was a sight to behold. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the sky turned alive with a spectacular display of colours.

It displayed shades of orange, pink, and red blended in a breathtaking fusion of warmth and vibrancy. It was a sign of hope and healing.

As the sun sank lower, the delightful sight of the rays became more diffuse, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The clouds were painted with a soft pastel hue, and the sky displayed a healing quality that was so calming and peaceful.

The air was pollution free and fresh, and a light breeze carried the fragrance of tropical flowers and ocean gusts.

As the last rays of the sun faded from the sky, the horizon became a deep shade of crimson, signaling the end of another day in paradise. Everyone around me felt awed and inspired by the unusual natural beauty and saw the event as the universe’s way of guiding us on our path.

I joined the locals to put our hands together in prayer to show our respect and thank the creator for another day of peace. The experience I gained from the 24 hours of quiet solitude was one of the unique soothing retreats and truly magical because I felt I was reborn. Birds, squirrels and creepy crawlers roamed freely, and the grass was greener.

All 4.2 million people, including tourists on the island, acted in unison and stayed indoors as the power supply went off, and roads and airports closed the whole day. All motorised and foot movements were brought to a standstill while Balinese Hindus observed the day of silence by fasting, meditating and abstaining from worldly pleasures.

Best of all, cellular and internet service providers turned off cellular and internet data during Nyepi Day, a public holiday.

Subtle messages from the universe are abundant and often hold more profound reflections about life and meanings than we realise. When we are in harmony, our inner senses allow us to tap into a deeper understanding of the world around us and can guide us toward the best course of action.

Ultimately, the universe constantly sends us messages, but we must pay attention and interpret them correctly. One way of achieving that is by staying open and receptive to the signs and symbols around us. Doing so allows us to tap into the universe’s wisdom and lead more satisfying lives.

Bali has respected Hari Nyepi as a holy day in silence since 1945, and it is the only place globally that values the importance of quietness and regards it as a day of self-discipline.

Why? The day of stillness allows everyone to cleanse, rejuvenate, rethink and restart because we can get the answers we seek in silence. The activity connects us to the spiritual world.

When constantly distracted by noise, it can be hard to hear our inner voice and invoke our inner wisdom.

We must quiet the noise around us to hear our inner self because our soul whispers and guides us only then.

I returned feeling much lighter, happier and purified. I will be at the next Silent Day in Bali on March 11, 2024.
